Students are finishing up with latitude and longitude today and have 2 sheets that are due tomorrow.  Starting Friday, the class will be working on a project with the eras.  More information is coming on that.

Monday, September 16, 2013

This week the students will be working on latitude and longitude.  Tomorrow, the students will have a quiz on the continents and oceans.  Wednesday, there will be a quiz on the 50 states.

Today students will be working on latitude an longitude-plotting points on a grid.  They can also start preparing for the test Tuesday on the 50 states and land forms.

Sept 9th and 10th the students will be working on their "America Means" poster.  Each student will present the poster in front of the class on Thursday, Sept 12th.

In Social Studies today, the students will create a poster called "America Means..." that will represent what The United States of America means to them.  The rubric below shows the requirements for poster that is due on Tuesday, Sept 10.

AMERICA MEANS POSTER

You will be creating a poster that displays IN PICTURES of what America means to you.  You are able to use any materials necessary (Limit of 5 computer generated graphics – you must have cite where you found your pictures) to include on the poster.  You WILL have time in class to work on the poster.

REQUIREMENTS:

1)                   YOU MUST CREATE A LIST OF WORDS, PHRASES AND IDEAS THAT COME TO YOUR MIND WHEN YOU HEAR THE WORD AMERICA.

2)                 MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 15 SYMBOLS TO REPRESENT WHAT YOU THINK AMERICA MEANS.  MORE IS OK.  YOU ALSO NEED WORDS TO EXPLAIN EACH SYMBOL.

3)                 MUST BE COLORFUL/APPEALING TO LOOK AT.

4)                 MUST HAVE THE WORDS “AMERICA MEANS…” READABLE/NOTICEABLE ON THE POSTER.

5)                 MUST HAVE A FULL HEADING ON THE BACK.

6)                 MUST PUT FORTH GREAT EFFORT… YOUR ARTISTIC ABILITIES WILL NOT BE JUDGED NOR GRADED. YOU WILL BE GRADED ON a) following the requirements and b) effort.

Today in Social Studies, we will be discussing what America means to the students.  They will need to create a list of at least 15 total symbols, words/phrases, ideas and people that make The USA special.
