Research Paper

Today, students will complete the research on their 3 topics so that they can start writing/typing tomorrow. The rough draft of their 3 body paragraphs is due on Monday, Sept 22.

Research Paper

Today, students picked out their topics for the research paper that will be done in Comm Arts/Social Studies.  The students do not have to research outside of school, but if they do, they will have more work time in class to type.

9/11

Today, students took the Continents and Oceans Quiz.  After the completion of the test, we had a discussion and watched the news reports from 9/11.  No homework was given out.

US Map

Today, students will label a US Map that will be used throughout the year.  They also have an opportunity to earn some extra credit by working on a US Capitals latitude and longitude sheet.  Tomorrow is also the continents and oceans quiz.  The word bank is on Monday's blog post.

No homework today, the students presented their America Mean's Poster to the class.  We also started the read aloud Nothing But The Truth by Avi.  On Thursday, Sept 11, students will have a quiz on the continents, oceans and major lines of latitude and longitude.  The word list is below:

America Means

Today, students will start creating their "America Means" poster and it will be presented to the class on Monday, September 8.  The rubric for the poster is below.


AMERICA MEANS POSTER

You will be creating a poster that displays IN PICTURES of what America means to you.  You are able to use any materials necessary (Limit of 5 computer generated graphics – you must have cite where you found your pictures) to include on the poster.  You WILL have time in class to work on the poster.

REQUIREMENTS:

1)                  YOU MUST CREATE A LIST OF WORDS, PHRASES AND IDEAS THAT COME TO YOUR MIND WHEN YOU HEAR THE WORD AMERICA.

2)                MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 15 SYMBOLS TO REPRESENT WHAT YOU THINK AMERICA MEANS.  MORE IS OK.  YOU ALSO NEED WORDS TO EXPLAIN EACH SYMBOL.

3)                MUST BE COLORFUL/APPEALING TO LOOK AT.

4)               MUST HAVE THE WORDS “AMERICA MEANS…” READABLE/NOTICEABLE ON THE POSTER.

5)                MUST HAVE A FULL HEADING ON THE BACK.

6)               MUST PUT FORTH GREAT EFFORT… YOUR ARTISTIC ABILITIES WILL NOT BE JUDGED NOR GRADED. YOU WILL BE GRADED ON a) following the requirements and b) effort.

Welcome to the 2014-15 school year.  This blog will be used to update you on homework, tests and classroom activities. For tomorrow, students need to have the expectations and technology sheets signed, as well as the 2 paragraph assignment completed. The first paragraph is on 3 likes of previous social studies classes, the other on 3 dislikes of previous social studies classes.
