Latitude and Longitude Definitions

Latitude - The angular distance north or south of the earth's equator
Measured in degrees along a meridian, as on a map or globe
Measures 0-90
Always written first

Longitude - Angular distance on the earth's surface, measured east or west from the prime meridian. 
Measures 0-180
Always written second
  
Absolute location - the exact spot where something is on the earth. An example would be the longitude and latitude of a place.

Relative Location- a point or place in relation to another point or place

Ex. Milwaukee is South of Green Bay

Worksheet/Test Word Banks

In the link below are the word banks for the worksheets due September 10 and the tests on September 15/16.  On September 15, Block A/B will take The US States Test and C/D will take The Continents Test.  September 16,  Block A/B will take The Continents Test and C/D will take The US States Test.  Remember, if you are making a word bank for the tests, it needs to be hand written and turned in with the test.

America Means Poster and Essay

Today, students started to work on their America Means Poster and Essay that will be due on Sept 10th.  The essay will be done in conjunction with Comm Arts.  Due for tomorrow is a list of 15 or more things that students think of when they hear the word America. US History Pre-Test (Ungraded)

Today, the students will be taking the US History Pre-Test to see what knowledge they are bringing to the class.  After they complete the test, the students will start creating a list of things that they think of when they hear the word "America."

First Day Work

Welcome to the first day of 8th grade.  I am Mr. Sarosiek and everything you will need for the class will be found on this blog.  For tomorrow, the students need to write 3 likes and 3 dislikes they have of Social Studies.  For Friday, they need to turn in their signed expectations sheet.
